Sand Hoppers Aged 5-6

We encourage children as young as 5 to join the club however they must be able to swim.

Sand Hoppers are a great group to join as is an introduction to Surf Life Saving and as well as beach games, they'll learn the basic knowledge about the beach and sea environment, they will also be able to go in the sea depending on the conditions to learn about wading, surf swimming and board paddling.

The emphasis is on fun in a friendly environment and ensuring the children gain confidence in the water. All the sessions are run and supervised by experienced coaches and the water activities are supervised by qualified club lifeguards, all of whom have been CRB cleared. Given the age of the children we ask that one parent/responsible adult remains with the child during the session, their role will be to support and encourage their child.

Nippers Age 7-13

Having been taught the basics and given an introduction to the beach and sea safety, the Nippers develop their life saving skills, surf skills and water confidence in a fun, supervised environment.

As the sport of surf life saving grows the Nippers are taught the latest techniques by our experienced coaches, whilst also teaching them sea confidence, swimming in the sea, board skills, wading and beach games. The club is proud to have had a number of Nippers go on to represent Great Britain who come back and offer their knowledge & experience to our Nippers.

Part of Nipper life includes Local and National competitions, during Summer and Winter. All the competitions are fantastic experience for all the children, teaching them to compete solely or working as part of a team.

Juniors Age 13-16 & Youth Age 16-19

The Junior and Youth section is all about having fun in the sea, learning valuable life saving skills, leading a healthy lifestyle whilst remaining fit. The Juniors and Youth team train on the latest equipment allowing them to negotiate testing conditions on reliable kit. Again the sessions are run by qualified and experienced coaches and we thrive on developing this section into future club coaches. Many of our teenage members have, over the years represented our club in regional and national surf life saving sports competitions, with some even making the British team and representing Great Britain in international competitions!

Many of our older youth members are qualified RNLI beach lifeguards, gaining their requisite qualifications through club-based training and experience. Members of 16 years and over are encouraged to work towards the SLSGB Surf Lifeguard award required for employment as a professional beach lifeguard in the UK and abroad.
